Kamala Harris
Kamala Devi Harris is an American politician from the United States. Born on October 20, 1964, she was the 49th Vice-President of the United States. Kamala Devi Harris is the first female vice president and the highest-ranking female official in U.S. history, as well as the first African American and first Asian American vice president. As a member of the Democratic Party, she has been the attorney general of California from 2011 to 2017, and also as a United States senator representing California until 2021. Harris was born in Oakland. Harris received her law degree from Howard University. After establishing her career as an Alameda County District Attorney, Harris was recruited to San Francisco District Attorney's Office. In the following years, she was the City Attorney of San Francisco. In 2003, she became the San Francisco district attorney. Harris was elected Attorney general of California in 2010. In 2014, she was elected to a second term. Harris served as the junior United States Senator from California between 2017 to 2021. Harris defeated Loretta Sanchez to become the first African American woman senator and the first South Asian American ever to be elected to the United States Senate. As a senator she advocated health reform, federal descheduling of cannabis, a pathway for immigrants who are not legal citizens as well as the DREAM Act and a ban on assault weapons. She also backed progressive tax reform. She is most famous for her sharp questions to Trump administration officials in Senate hearings.
